Examples of Vehicular Crimes
Accidents involving cars, motorcycles, watercraft, and other vehicles are incredibly common in Cleveland. Sometimes such accidents result in serious crimes that the state of Ohio will prosecute.
- Aggravated vehicular assault or homicide, which is causing serious bodily injury or death to another person or unborn child while in operation of a vehicle either recklessly or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, also called “fleeing and eluding.”
- Failure to stop after an accident on a public road or highway, also known in Ohio as a “hit-skip.”
- Reckless driving, defined in the Ohio Revised Code as operating a vehicle “in willful or wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property.” This includes drag racing.
